COVID & Virtual Performances

In March 2020, like music groups everywhere, SVNHM suddenly stopped meeting in person.

We quickly moved to Zoom (“What is Zoom??”) and created a lively mix of musical seminars, workshops, and breakout sessions covering topics from instrument care and music theory to bowing techniques, percussion, technology, and “What is the Conductor DOING up there??”

When it became clear this was not going to be a short interruption, we took on an even bigger challenge: learning how to rehearse, record, and create virtual ensemble performances from our homes.

The virtual performances were fun — and a lot of work! (“No, you don’t need to do 54 takes before submitting your video! Leave the mistakes — we can remove them!”)

What came out of that unusual time was remarkable: members learned new skills, made real musical progress, and together created performances we are still proud of today.
