Psst! You, there!
Looking to get back into music—or try it for the first time—in a welcoming, low-pressure environment?
We’re Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music—a friendly band and string ensemble for adults who want to play, learn, and enjoy music together.
Do you ever listen to a concert and wish you could play a band or orchestra instrument?
Have you recently started playing a band or orchestra instrument but don’t have a place to play with others?
Do you already play an instrument, but find yourself wishing you played a different instrument?
Have you ever thought back on how much fun it was to play years (decades!) ago and wish you could do it again?
Have you watched your children play in band or orchestra and thought, “that looks like fun?”
Do you want to play your instrument, but don’t want the stress of a traditional community band or orchestra?
If any of that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
“I don’t feel quite ready to come back - I’ll just wait until I feel more comfortable playing.” We hear that a lot. If you wait until you feel ready, you may never feel ready. Our group is built on the idea that your best is always good enough—and we welcome a wide range of abilities. So now is the time!

“But I don’t even know what those little black marks mean!”
We will help you get started—step by step. Before you know it, you’ll be playing with the full group. Over half of our members started their instruments as adults—you can, too! We’ll begin by having you join us to play a very easy piece that you’ve worked on with your private teacher.
Ready to get started?
Guitar, piano, ukulele, bagpipes, or another instrument? Sorry, we don’t currently have a program for these instruments. We focus on orchestral strings and Concert Band winds and percussion.
Visiting from out of town?
We love welcoming musicians from other New Horizons groups—come play with us!
